WhatsApp Groups are now available for our members

Thank you to everyone who came along to our recent WhatsApp sessions during Get Online Week. We hope that you find WhatsApp as a valuable way for your group to share thoughts and ideas relating to your  groups’ activities. For those who were unable to attend, below are some notes on the use of WhatsApp at our Centre.

If you don’t already have WhatsApp, you can download it to your phone by going to www.whatsapp.com

WhatsApp Etiquette
DO keep the group messages relevant to everyone.
DO use the group for support – arrange a group get-together or a coffee catch-up or share some relevant news or information.
DO remember to be polite and supportive.
DO respect that different people have different levels of capacity in using the app.
DO answer people’s questions but keep it brief especially if it’s a large group.
DO make sure you’re in the right group. It’s always awkward sending messages meant for someone else.
DON’T get into in-depth conversations.
DON’T have conversations with one person in a group.
DON’T overshare. Some things are better said in person or on a phone call, and WhatsApp – however great – is no substitution.
DON’T contact members outside the WhatsApp Group unless you have their permission to do so.

Any group member who doesn’t not abide by the above guidelines may be removed from the group. If you have any questions or concerns about your group please contact the Ashburton Community Centre staff.
